Hanwha Signs Agreement to Support Eco-friendly Social Enterprises

Financial support of up to 100 million won along with management consulting, mentoring, training, and workshops will be provided

Hanwha Corp. and the Work Together Foundation met at the 63 Building on Wednesday morning, March 28, 2012 to sign an agreement for the Hanwha Eco-friendly Social Enterprise Support Project. Along with Hanwha president Il-Hyung JANG, the Work Together Foundation executive director, Sea-Joong LEE, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor director, Tae-Hee LEE, officials from various fields participated.

Hanwha Eco-friendly Social Enterprise Support Project is one of Hanwha’s "seven great integrated projects for ecosystemic development" announced in November of last year. This project is being carried forward cooperatively by Hanwha and the WT, Korea's largest social enterprise supporting organization. Hanwha has expressed a strong commitment to expanding its social contribution practices.

Starting in March of 2012, a total budget of 1.5 billion won will be invested until February of next year. The current project will be conducted mainly in two parts: customized support for social enterprises and social enterprise ecosystem encouragement. The project aims to discover and nurture eco-friendly social enterprises demonstrating high growth potential and to strengthen the sustainability of the social enterprise ecosystem.

To provide customized support for social enterprises, the project organizers will select 20 social enterprises through a public offering, granting them business expenses and management consulting from a group of experts. Furthermore, to promote social enterprise ecosystem encouragement, they plan to establish a business school linked to the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), offer job training for social entrepreneurs, and build networks and competency by holding forums with prominent oversea experts.

Hanwha President JANG, after signing the agreement, commented, “Creating a win-win situation with communities is what Hanwha’s 'Growing Together' philosophy is all about. Hanwha will continue to take a leading role in creating a bright and reliable society, with the motto ‘Further Together, Not Fast Alone.’”
