4th Sector in Korea/Social Enterprise

Organization YORI

Organization YORI

<Social Impact>

Social Mission & Purpose

To teach cook skills and to create social jobs for the selfindependence of the disadvantaged, such as matriarchs,

juveniles, the disabled, or married female immigrants

Country or Area of Focus Expanding to all of Korea starting with Seoul

<Objective>

- Practical goals for the environment as a food enterprise: suggestion of a pro-environmental menu which contains fresh ingredients (no MSG), and the minimization of food waste

- Intrinsic goals for the environment: the provision of healthy and safe food, and the realization of a workplace where workers are able to learn and enjoy working

<Strength / achievement>

- Baking workshop for career planning and self-independence of disabled juveniles (March 2008

~ Present): we held a baking workshop as a part of vocational experiences and education which

are needed for career planning for disabled students in the second grade of Seonyoo High

School near Yongdungpo. This workshop has not only the significant meaning of offering an

opportunity to experience baking as a job to disabled juveniles, but also working as a local care

project to help disabled juveniles to settle down in the local community and become independent

in the long run. Also, they organized the ‘Hello79’ project, a youth baking team of Organization

Yori which plans and operates cooking classes. In this manner, this workshop has an important

meaning as a successful case of an independent joint-education venture of disabled and nondisabled

juveniles

- Supporting cooking and barista training and field trips for free as a vocational education project

to help female immigrants from various cultures settle into Korean society and achieve economic

independence by employing four of them

- Selected as a social enterprise to receive loans from the Social Solidarity Bank for building the

community of married female immigrants , and get labor cost support for the staff in charge

- Certified as a social enterprise by the Ministry of Labor in 2008

- Employed the women who have had their careers interrupted, female immigrants, juveniles, or

matriarchs through the social job project from the Ministry of Labor in December 2008

<Sustainable Method>

Our goal is to discover what each of member wants to do and is good at, and to operate a

people-oriented enterprise which maximizes each individual's abilities rather than starting with

heavy environmental or social responsibility
